About the sail loft
Fabricworks purpose built sail loft has over 2100sqft of manufacturing space, housing several sewing machines e.g. Twins, singles, over-lockers and a 14m Travelling head FIAB high frequency welder as well a 2no. static head welders .
The space we have allows us to manufacture and prototype bespoke projects for us and our clients in house, cutting down on lead time and assisting with quick turnaround when required.
In order to keep all projects clean and un-marked the loft is treated as a clean area with specially covered floor, work benches and all staff wearing loft shoes. A strict quality control process is run, where all projects are checked, wrapped and bagged ready for collection or delivery.
The High Frequency Welders:
The HF welders allow us to join PVC fabrics such as Ferrari, Stamoid, Soltis, Batyline, Dicksons PVC, Sauleda, Satine and Natte to mention a few. All these fabrics can be joined to make mainly tensile structures but this process is also very useful for blinds, banners and even the simplest of forms such as ground sheets, trailer covers and bags.
The seam created using this welding process, will last longer than a stitched seam as there is no thread that can degrade over time when exposed to UV and the elements, its also 100% waterproof.
Our variety of sewing machines enable us to cover the sewing requirements of any given project e.g. Lycra, Cotton, PVC, Window Material, Stamoid, Canvas, Print Substrates and Trevira, etc. The twin machine offers a durable seam where projects can be under heavy load or even for aesthetics where the client requires the seam to be visible. The single machine is mainly used for detailed work and finishing as it offers many stitches e.g. zig zag, piping and standard. It is also used for lightweight projects. The over-locker is ideal when trying to make the seam discreet and also works well with projects that are back lit as it reduces shadowing while creating a strong seam.
We use a high-performance bonded special sewing thread for sails and other outdoor applications its extremely durable and resistant to untwisting and therefore suited for multidirectional sewing, most importantly it has outstanding UV resistance.
Sub-contract fabric finishing is available using all the methods above:
